Do more of, do less of

I've been thinking of an idea that could hopefully help me and indirectly others improve on personal behaviours. This idea is based on something I learned in some of the leadership courses I've attended in the past. It relates to looking at yourself from another person's perspective and evaluate your strengths and weaknesses. It looks to identify areas for improvements by specifically listing out the things (or behaviours) I should do more of, and the things I should do less of, and the things I should continue doing.

So in this vein, I'd put down the following as things I should do more of:

  • pay attention to the people closest to me: make sure that eye contact and interest is genuine when communicating with them

I will add more as I go along. Also would like to see whether this can be done on a separate website.

Personal Behaviours

Agreed with most of what you've listed. I've attended a few leadership programmes during my working life. Something that I would like to share are :

One has to be aware of himself/herself (thus knowing your strength, weakness and what you are capable of) and then the surroundings (the people around you, the animals, the environment etc).

Everyone of us has 10% consciouness and 90% unconsciousness in the things that we are doing. We need to lower down the unconsciousness level so that we understand, know what we are doing and how/what impact will be if we were to do something. To be able to understand these subject matters is to actually look at body language of the other party. Try standing by yourself in the Mall, lounges etc looking at the people around you - it does not matter if you do not know the person. You will learn more about the other person that you are dealing with by studying these unwritten body language that you've learnt. Example why a couple during lunch seating face to face or side by side.

Every event that we undergo in life will have an impact to us and most of the time we will try to resist in order to survive the situation. This will create a belief and we retreat to our own safe comfort zone. In the event new situation rise up, we will automatically react to the situation based on the belief that we have so that we could retreat back to our comfort zone. Therefore, an image is develop through past experience, something we want to potray to others.

And thus a person has a choice in life to do something or not do anything. So question is what are you going to do next?

Marcy - absolutely. Coincidently, I just finished a course in personal presentation which explains the need for us to portray ourselves in a proper manner. Much of this is due to the natural tendency for people to subconsciously (or consciously) judge others by appearances. A lot can be learnt by observing body languages, behaviours, actions etc.

Certainly, I shall observe more about the silent messages / body languages that people project. This is not easy, as I am particularly bad in reading people. But hey, this is a valuable skill.

So what category are you? Autumn, Spring, Winter or Fall? I'm Autumn if I'm not mistaken - that's why I need to wear more pastel colors. :)

Good for you. I think I've already have a knack on it after interviewing more than 200 people. That's why I always believe in my gut feelings coz 90% it proves to be right.

But then again we might have the tendency to pre-judge people. However, always bear in mind that people never change. No matter how much they said that they want to change - people just never change. They have to learn to accept themselves and expand to a higher limit.

I've done that. That was one of the reason that I took go carting - to expand myself. To be able to drive safely and fast on a race track as compared on the road. I've got to overcome the urge to drive fast on the public roads by channelling the energy to the go kart race track. And not to forget thank you for the support.
